The Starving Scholars Fund was renamed in honor of our founder, Glen GoodKnight, upon his passing in November 2010. Glen always emphasized the importance of encouraging scholarship in Inklings studies and was happy to see this fund come into existence; we believe he would be pleased to have his name associated with the Starving Scholars Fund.
As with the Glen GoodKnight Memorial Scholarship Fund, we will spend no more than half of the fund in a given year. Expenditures from the fund will be discussed and approved by a group consisting of the Society’s editors. Those interested in proposing internships should contact the appropriate editor.

The Glen GoodKnight Starving Scholars Fund
The Glen GoodKnight Starving Scholars Fund supports attendance at Mythcon for scholars and other participants. Preference is given to persons presenting a paper or participating on a panel, though others are not automatically excluded from consideration. Awards consist of membership in the conference and/or a gift of money toward other conference expenses (such as travel costs). The Mythcon Papers Coordinator, in consultation with the Mythopoeic Society Council of Stewards and the Conference Committee, makes the final decision in regard to award recipients, amounts and application of funds.The Starving Scholars Fund was renamed in honor of our founder, Glen GoodKnight, upon his passing in November 2010. The Mike Foster Memorial Publications Assistance Fund
Michael “Mike” Foster, who died in March 2023, was a Mythcon regular, a great lover of the Clerihew contest, and a frequent contributor to Mythlore as a scholar and reviewer. Mike was a journalist at heart, and taught both journalism and Tolkien until his retirement. This fund was created in his memory by friends to whom he was particularly dear. The purpose of the fund would be to provide a payment or official stipend for anyone we hire to help with one of our publications (Mythlore, Mythprint, MythPress books, Mythic Circle, and conference-related publications like program books). The most appropriate use of the fund is supporting short-term internships for persons interested in hands-on experience with our publications.As with the Glen GoodKnight Memorial Scholarship Fund, we will spend no more than half of the fund in a given year.
